I have known this family since I was in elementary school. After high school we kind of went our separate ways, although stayed in touch via the modern wonders of social media. Occasionally we’d run into them while vacationing on the Isle of Palms, SC.
This summer all the girls and their families came to visit their parents in South Carolina, of course family portraits were in order!
We met at the beautiful campus of Furman. As it does during the summer here in South Carolina, we often get intense afternoon and evening storms. They blow in, make a mess, then blow back out. I had kept an eye on the weather all day, and it looked like we would be okay for the evening’s session. Since they had about an hour’s drive for portraits, I wanted to make sure the weather would cooperate.
We started off with the entire family, great grandparents, grandparents, kids and grandkids. There were a bunch of them!
As soon as we started photographing their family, black clouds showed up and the wind began to pick up. I knew we would get all the shots the family wanted, but that would be it, no time for playing around or getting fun creative shots. We moved quickly and got everybody photographed.
Just as we wrapped up their session the first drops of rain started to hit our faces. We packed up quick and everyone made a mad dash back to the cars. Almost everyone made it out okay without being drenched to the bone. A few of us were not quick as lucky.
It was great to quickly catch up with the family and I was honored to photograph them! Here’s my favorites from our super quick family portrait session at Furman University.
