I have known Annie for many years now. It actually doesn’t feel like it has been as long as it has, if I’m honest. I’d have to stop and think how many years it has been . . . maybe nine years? Ten?
Anyways, it doesn’t matter, Annie is one of those people if you haven’t seen in a while, you can pick up right where you left off. It would make sense that we would be friends, I mean; she’s from the great state of Michigan!
Annie has three adorable girls and for the longest time I wanted to photograph them. I was finally able to sweet-talk Annie into a portrait session and it actually ended up being sort of an impromptu session.
The weather had been so nice all week, but for some reason, the day of our pictures, the wind was really something fierce. The sun was out, which really helped, but the temperature was chilly and the wind didn’t help anything.
We started out all huddling together with a blanket and were able to get several really precious portraits. Then, the girls started to warm up a bit and we moved around the property for some different looks and angles.
I haven’t photographed three sisters before, so this was unique for me. Well, let me back up, I have photographed three sisters before, but just not so young.
As things progressed, the girls weren’t quite as chilly and we made the wind work in our favor.
I love taking portraits for friends, I seem to be more relaxed and at ease for some reason. I don’t feel like I need to be perfect and have a plan like I do for a normal client situation. Creative portrait sessions like this one are so much fun to shoot.
Here are my favorites from this session of Annie and her three girls. I hope we can make this a yearly thing!

Thanks again so much for doing these for/with us! I still chuckle when I see the ones of Savannah when she was cold. Her expressions are priceless!
