I am sure you have seen a few of this mountain engagement session from Black Balsam Knob floating around my website, but it recently dawned on me that I never blogged about it.
This session was part of a model call I put out earlier in the summer requesting people who might be interested in receiving images from a creative session at a reduced price from a normal portrait session.
I had never been to Black Balsam before and really liked the idea of shooting in the mountains, especially at sunset. My couple were up for anything and were very patient and gracious with me while I thought posing through or if lighting just wasn’t working in a certain area, they just made jokes and laughed.
We created a shared pinterest page with ideas for outfits. I really like this idea because it helps give both the client and photographer a visual of the look and feel of a particular session. Melissa also texted me outfit options. I love this idea and strongly encourage clients to do this. I am always eager to help with outfit planning, trust me, I know it can be overwhelming and easy to over think things.
This session was a lot of fun for several reasons.
- We shot somewhere I had never been. So I didn’t know all the cool spots where you are supposed to go. We just found great light and made it work.
- I could try to implement new poses or techniques and not feel the pressure of the client being a paid client. I guess the pressure wasn’t there to be 100% on and it allowed me to be more creative.
- It was gorgeous.
- We saw 2 weddings.
- Matt and Melissa were so fun and laid back and were so easy to work with!
Here’s my favorite images from our model call engagement session up in the mountains of the Pisgah National Forest.
