When I put out the call for couples to photograph, Laura responded, and I was excited they wanted to partake! I had photographed their family last summer and really enjoyed getting to meet them and work together. It’s always an encouragement when past clients are eager to work with me again.
This is the second year that I’ve held a model call and I am really enjoying these sessions. What is a model call you ask? It’s a portrait session held for a very specific purpose. In my case, I need to work on couples posing and I want to work on some editing as well. So, I asked for married or engaged couples who would be willing to pose for me in exchange for a reduced portrait fee and a free print of their choice. This allows me to get some much-needed practice in, but it also allows some great portraits for my clients at a reduced rate. They just need to be patient with me and let me do my thing.
We collaborate together, but typically I have a theme in mind that I’d like to capture. In the past I have done a model call in the mountains, with a motorcycle, in an old warehouse district, and now the fishing hole model call.
We scheduled a date and I planned away with my Pinterest board full of ideas. I chose the location and began to get excited. The day came, and it threatened to rain, but I checked the weather and figured we’d be good. You would think I would know, after living in Greenville for nearly 15 years that I would know Greenville weather can be so volatile.
Poor Laura and Matt! Their GPS decided to send them in the opposite direction from our portrait shoot location. On top of that, that storm that wasn’t supposed to happen until later, showed up to play a lot sooner than expected. We decided to reschedule after several back and forth texts and phone calls. I hate to reschedule!
We picked another date that worked with everyone’s schedule and tried again. Like last time, I watched the weather. South Carolina is notorious for sudden afternoon thunderstorms in the summer. Sure enough, there was a massive amount of rain headed our way. To play it safe, we rescheduled for a few days later. Wouldn’t you know it, the rain came and went so quickly, it was actually sunny during the time we were supposed to shoot.
Finally, we had good weather and the rain held off, although I did get a drop or two on the way to the park.
Working with Matt and Laura is always a good time and I love their sense of humor. Thanks for working with me and helping me with my couples posing! These are my favorites from their couples model call portrait session.
