November 11th is Veteran’s Day. The day after, on the 12th, I will be participating in a marathon row to help raise funds for Upstate Warrior Solutions. This organization is located in the Upstate of South Carolina and provides assistance to those veterans returning to the civilian workforce.
Since their inception in 2013, Upstate Warrior Solutions has helped over 2200 veterans in the Upstate. This may include returning back to school, helping to find employment, or providing encouragement to families.
I have always wanted to try my hand at a race or athletic event of some sort. I always wanted to run a race. . . but in the back of my mind, I knew I wasn’t kidding anyone. I am not a runner. I really wish I were, but I’m not. It’s a goal I have to be able to compete in a 5k or 10k and be able to run the entire length of the course. But I digress. A few months ago, this marathon row event was announced at my crossfit gym, Swamp Rabbit Crossfit, and I knew I wanted to give it a try.
A marathon row consists of rowing over 42,195 meters on a rowing machine. This typically takes 3-4 hours to complete. I will be partnering up for this row, so thankfully, I will only need to row half that!
I am looking to raise support for my entry. If you would like to donate towards a great cause, you can do so on my gofundme page. I know it feels like everyone is asking for money these days and I get that we can’t give to every charity or worthy cause that comes along. That’s okay. I would still love to hear your encouragement!
Or, if you are feeling adventurous, you can join me and my fellow rowers and enter the event for yourself! You’ll get a snazzy t-shirt, car decal, and raise funds/awareness for a local charity. It’s a win-win. Here’s the info you’ll need to do that.
Thank you! I will be sure to let you all know how it goes!
