I really enjoyed this session a few years ago right around Christmas time. This particular family consisted of Dad, Mom and triplets! All three had graduated from Furman University, so it was only fitting that we took their family photos at the college. I can not imagine growing up having triplets! Can you?
It’s rare that I get to photograph families where the children are all grown and there are no little people running around. As much as I love the little guys, having an all adult group was a breath of fresh air!
We took pictures at roughly three different places on campus. This particular image was one of my favorites in an iconic place at Furman. In fact, the family loved it so much, they ordered a canvas of it!
In working with large groups, its important to keep things moving, no matter the age of the group. People are people and will still get bored. In all my sessions, I do try to keep things moving and I’m always talking with the clients or joking with them. This family was wonderful to take photos of and were quite the jokesters themselves. (is that even a word?).
As with any winter time shoot, it’s hard to find pretty places that aren’t brown or barren of anything pretty. Thankfully for us, Furman keeps its grounds immaculate so we had plenty to work with. I especially like how the trees frame the family, and I’m becoming more and more a fan of white space or dead space in a photo. It’s a preference and I don’t do it for every photo I shoot, but it’s nice to throw one in the mix every once and a while.
