Baby Theodore made his entrance into this world on a quiet Sunday morning a few days before his due date. Just 24 hours earlier, his momma was working out when her water broke a few minutes into the workout! Talk about a in-shape and strong momma! So proud of her for working out during her pregnancy and keeping her baby healthy!
I met Kaitlin while working out at a local gym a couple of years ago. We typically attended the same 5:30 am class and struck up a friendly camaraderie. She faithfully attended class throughout her pregnancy and speaking from experience, that’s not always easy to do, especially so early in the morning!
Kaitlin and her husband Dan, a pilot in the Air Force, along with their two dogs, welcomed Theodore into the family with open and loving arms. When talking on the phone about their portraits, Kaitlin explained to me she wanted to feel natural and relaxed during their in-home lifestyle session. I assured her, I am all about relaxed and having fun during my portrait sessions! If we need to stop for the baby, that is not a problem.
Baby Theodore was perfect and after a quick feeding was ready to rock and roll. We captured a few photos with the family dogs, and even made an exception to allow them on the bed!
Photographing newborns in a lifestyle way allows the parents (and pets) to be involved in the portrait session without really feeling like they are being photographed. I love using simple moments between the parents and new baby as I photograph them. I always encourage the parents to interact with the new baby and with each other. I feel like this lets everyone relax and not worry so much about looking at the camera and having the perfect pose. It’s a more honest reflection of life.
If you stick around until the end, there is a quick little video from Theodore’s newborn lifestyle session.
