These two kids met at the racetrack and have been in the fast lane ever since (sorry for the bad joke, I couldn’t resist).
I’ve known her family for many years so when Whitlie asked me to photograph her and her fiance’s, Andy, engagement pictures in the mountains, I was super excited! For lots of reasons. First and foremost, they are the cutest couple! Secondly, I don’t often photograph up in the mountains and it was a breath of fresh air to switch up venues from the Upstate of Greenville.
Speaking of fresh air, recently several wildfires have been started in the mountains between North and South Carolina. It’s been the first of this kind that I can remember since I’ve been in Greenville. Whitlie really wanted romantic sunset mountain view pictures and I was concerned we wouldn’t have that option because of the smoke from the fire.
We braved the cold weather mid afternoon and drove up the mountain to Caesar’s Head to see what we could find. Typically a crowded location on the weekends, the park was relatively quiet, which actually worked to our advantage. We started down a less well-known trail for a few woodsy pictures before turning around and heading back to the lookout point at Caesar’s Head. Because of the smoke, the mountains weren’t very clear at all, but I love the image we captured from this location!
Next we headed back down the road a little ways to Bald Rock. This is such a fun spot to shoot, if you don’t mind a little graffiti. On a clear day, Greenville is laid out beneath you and to the west are the mountains. As we arrived the sun was starting to peek out of the clouds and give us some pretty pink haze in the sunset. The lighting was perfect and the smoke just added to the whole experience. In my opinion, it gave us a lot of different looks for their session. Some pictures were definitely more moody, while others had more of a relaxing, romantic feel to them.
Despite the cooler weather and wildfires, we managed to get quite a few fabulous mountain engagement pictures. Thank you Whitlie and Andy! I had a great time shooting with you and I’m looking forward to your wedding in April!
