On August 6 I will have the incredible privilege of be part of a fundraising event for an amazing cause. It’s so neat to see how God brings things into your life that you have a desire to do. I have been thinking of a way to donate my time and photography to a cause or charity that I could stand behind and fully support.
A couple months ago I was approached by a friend from church about the opportunity to partake in a fundraising event. A couple in our church, Brad & Katie, have always had the desire to adopt. They started the process in December 2010 and in May 2011 they accepted the referral of an 8-month-old baby girl from Seoul, Korea, who they have name Zoe. Zoe has been diagnosed with PKU (Phenylketonuria). To read more about Brad & Katie’s amazing journey through the adoption process, you can read their blog, twodigtochina.blogspot.com
To help with the cost of travel expenses to Korea and adoption fees, a family adoption fundraiser was organized and is scheduled for August 6 from 9-5. Basically this will be a glorified garage sale where 100% of the proceeds will go to Brad & Katie’s adoption fees. In addition to the garage sale items, local artists, silent auction items, mini photo shoots, and food vendors & baked goods will also be featured, along with an iPad 2 raffle. To learn more about this event and location, you can check out the Facebook Event page, A Family Adoption Fundraiser.
For my part on this day, I will be available to take family or children’s photos from 9 AM-12 PM. The cost is $10 for one 8×10 picture. Are you over due for an updated family photo? Or you’d like a picture of the kids to send to grandma? This would be the perfect opportunity to have your picture taken in a casual environment with proceeds to go for such a great cause. Once the photos are processed, they will be available for download through an online gallery. Of course, any additional prints can be ordered with all proceeds going towards the fundraiser.
I hope you will seriously consider giving to this fundraiser. What greater joy is there than to bring a child into your home?
