Here are my five tips for planning the perfect family photoshoot.
1) Find and hire the right photographer; they are not all created equal
Ask yourself a few questions when looking for a family photographer.
What kind of images do you like? Do you prefer black and white or color?
Do you like close up images with lots of detail?
Or are you big picture kind of gal?
Do you like posed images?
Or do you prefer a more playful picture?
Start in your closet. What is your favorite color or favorite outfit? Pull it out and throw it on the bed, this will be your starting point.
Please, please, please, do not wear super matchy matchy outfits. Your photographer will secretly hate you.
Remember to accessorize – jewelry, hair bows, belts, hats.
Pinterest is chalk full of ideas and palettes with the perfect color choice and outfits, so if all else fails, you can always head over there.
3) The devil is in the details
You are making and investment with your photos. Go the extra mile and get your nails done.
Polish up those shoes.
Check your roots and if a trip to the salon is needed, book it about two weeks before your photoshoot.
Give your boys’ hair a trim for a fresh look.
4) Drink and eat smart
Leading up to your family photo day, drink lots of water. On the day of, avoid sweets or colored treats for the kiddos, save them for afterwards.
Be sure to get a good night’s rest the night before.
Leave with plenty of time to spare for your photoshoot, rushing around at the last minute doesn’t help anything.
5) Let your photographer do the job you hired them for
They are the professional.
Be confident in your photographer. This is what they do.
