I love it when a plan comes together.
This was the case over the summer. A childhood friend, who lives out of state, was visiting family in the area for a few days. We got together and reminisced about old times and talked about how cute all our kids are, and then immediately how old we are to have kids this old!
In addition to visiting family while in town, Whitney had also been scheming to throw her parents a surprise 40th wedding anniversary party. I was honored to be in on the surprise.
To set the stage, Whitney told her parents she had planned a photo shoot with her parents and all the grandkids. Thus, the reason for needing to dress up and meet at a local park.
I met them in the parking lot and we chit chatted for a few minutes. I suggested we walk up to the pavilion to wait until the rest of the grandkids arrived.
As we walked towards the pavilion, you could clearly see it was decorated for a party. Mrs. Hulin even commented, “It looks like someone’s having a party”. I smiled and replied something like, “Yes, it sure does!”
That’s when she put two and two together and realized what was going on.
Friends and family from out of state had travelled to celebrate this momentous occasion with them and they were all waiting under the pavilion to greet them.
It was a fun time watching their reactions to seeing old friends and hearing about all the scheming that had gone on under their noses!
Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Hulin on your 40th wedding anniversary!
